Abstract
Congenital hydrocephalus is most often caused by an obstruction in the cerebrospinal fluid flow pathway and results in ventricular dilatation and chronic trauma to the surrounding brain. The present study used B10.PL mouse as a model for treatment of hydrocephalus by ventriculoperitoneal shunting and investigated the extension of their life-span. As a result, the life-span in ventriculoperitoneal shunt treatment mouse is exteneded over 2 weeks more than untreatment mouse. The present study indicates that ventriculoperitoneal shunting may contribute to the improvement of the symptoms in this mouse.
